Jewish fulfillments in the Catholic Faith for Messianic Judaism

I’m not sure if this is the proper place to ask this question, but I figured this would be the best place to start.

I was Confirmed this last Sunday and brought into the Catholic Church. I was incredibly anti-Catholic even just a few years ago, and through His grace, I decided to buy some of Brant Pitre’s books on the Jewish roots of Mary and the Eucharist.They opened my eyes to the theological depth of the Catholic Church and the intricate web that God has been weaving from the dawn of creation through the Israelites and into the present day.

My wife does not agree with my decision to join the Catholic Church. She is a gentile, a Colombian, adopted into a family of gentiles, primarily Irish and Scottish. Her parents left the Church at about the age of 20, began following evangelicalism, and eventually ended up following something called by many names (Torah Observant Christianity, Messianic Judaism, Hebrew Roots, etc.). This group is made up, as far as I can tell, almost primarily of formerly evangelical gentiles who take a strong sola scripture view of Divine authority, however, there are many Jews who join this strand as well. She herself now follows this particular strand of Christianity.

I do not love her any less for her faith. She has an incredible love for God, and really wants to do what is right by him. She also has a strong desire to hold on to the legitimate Hebrew roots of the Faith, as do many, I feel.

I am likewise a gentile. I also have no Hebrew backgrounds. I also grew up evangelical. However, I have seen, as I said, the theological depth and the Catholic Church and the fine seeds God was leaving for us within the Torah, the rest of the Old Testament, the Jewish texts like the Mishnah and Talmud and other like them; they truly helped guide me towards the Church. This lack of a background is why I am here though. I need the help of my Hebrew Catholic brothers and sisters to aid me in my understanding, so that I can give a strong, accurate, and ultimately loving defense of the Faith that shows her the deep Jewish Roots of the Church.

I understand that there are already many resources available for this. As I said, I have read some of Dr. Brant Pitre’s work, and it is incredible. But many of the questions that I have, I am unable to find resources that sufficiently explain the why behind something, whether that be doctrines, practices, or whatever. Often when I have a question, I can find an answer, but not necessarily one that shows the Jewish Roots of it. I believe that this is an area where the Church today is sorely lacking, and we need people like Dr. Pitre who know Hebrew, know the Septuagint, know Aramaic, know the Torah, know the rabbinical and mystical writings, know the culture, and so on. There are a lot of people growing who want to understand this side of Christianity, but the Church doesn’t seem to have the resources available to show it in its true light currently.

Even just now, my wife told me “I am afraid for myself because of what you follow”. She thinks that the Church is Anti-Jewish, and frequently claims it “teaches Romanism”, which I’m not even sure what she means by that. She thinks that purgatory is Roman. Saintly veneration is Roman. Sunday worship is Roman. And the sad part is, I know how to defend those things, but not from a Jewish standpoint. I so very desperately need the help of my Hebrew brothers and sisters, and I believe I am not the only one.

And so I get to the substance of why I am writing this. I didn’t know where else to go, and by the grace of The Holy Spirit I found this website. I have noticed there haven’t been many posts made to these forums unfortunately.

I am going to start asking questions about the Faith, in hopes that I will get answers. I want answers from every angle possible. Original Hebrew, Torah, Mishnah, Talmud, Halakhah, Midrash, Aramaic Targums, Hebraic numerology; anything Jewish in thought or writing that could answer a question, I want to know it, and I think many others do too.

I really hope that we can have a thriving community of Catholics here who are both hungry for and knowledgeable in the Jewish roots of the Catholic Faith. I think there are so many people that could be reached if only our clergy and laymen alike were knowledgable in it.

So please, for the sake of my marriage, for the sake of people wanting to discover the Hebrew roots of the Faith, and for people who want to draw close to Our Lord through this incredible side of the Catholic Faith, help me.

Regarding the Sabbath.

Why the change to Sunday? What are the reasons for it? Are there any prophecies, rabbinical or mystical writings, Aramaic Targums, etc., that support the idea that a change to the day of the Sabbath may come? What about hebraic numerology?

All answers are welcome and desired.
