Ken and Flora Wilsker
Dear Havurim (friends),
This is Ken Wilsker and on behalf of my wife, Flora and the AHC, we want to wish everyone on this email list a very sweet New Year, Shana Tova! Between now and Yom Kippur (Sept. 22) is a time called the Days of Awe. For the Jewish people, especially those who have not met their Messiah, these are the holiest days of the year, as they ponder their lives and consider “teshuvah” or repentance. It is time to consider their lives in relation to God and to others. The goal is to have their names written in the Book of Life for another year. For those of us who are now Catholic, we can use these days to pray for the salvation of all Israel and for the Peace of Jerusalem. Personally, we make sure we go to confession and pray in solidarity with God’s chosen people.
We apologize for not getting out a regular issue before the High Holidays, but many of you know that I very unexpectedly was diagnosed in June with a rare form of cancer. It is called peritoneal mesothelioma. In July I underwent major surgery to remove the tumor and the first 6 to 7 weeks after the surgery I was very sick and weak. Thanks be to God, I am now feeling much better and starting to get back on my feet. Flora is still busy taking very good care of me. I am still home recovering but hope to get back to work before the end of this year. Thanks to everyone who has been praying for us, and we continue to need your prayers, thanks in advance.
We know that a new issue of The Hebrew Catholic is coming soon and we hope to have a real issue of the Havurah Newsletter out to all of you in the near future.
Our Lady of the Miracle and St. Edith Stein, pray of us!
Shalom haMashiach (Peace of Christ),
Ken and Flora Wilsker
